Couple credits togetherness for joint win of $500,000

Congratulations Diane and Dennis!

Diane and Dennis N. have done everything together for 40 years, and now they can include winning the lottery on that list.

The couple held a winning Maxmillion ticket in the August 9 LOTTO MAX draw, winning them $500,000!

The happy winners purchased their ticket from the Valleyview Co-Op Gas Bar on 114-7th avenue south in Virden on the day of the draw. They discovered the win a couple of days later back at the same store.

“We’ve done everything together, so why not win together too?” laughed Diane while claiming their prize.

It was Dennis who discovered the win first. “He came right over, he said he had to show me something,” explained Diane. “I really couldn’t believe it!”

Their ticket matched 7/7 numbers, 4, 9, 22, 32, 33, 41 and 49, winning a Maxmillions prize. The $1 Million Maxmillion prize was split with another ticket purchased in Ontario, with each winning $500,000.

The excited couple shared what it was like to share the news with their family.

“Our boys were all so happy and surprised. When we told my 94-year-old father it made him cry.”

Diane shared that the couple plans to use their winnings to help with retirement. “We’ve lived our lives, and helped our kids through theirs and we set them up to be good people. After that, there was never really a lot left. We are going to treat this like the retirement plan we never really had.”

Dennis piped up to make sure his wife remembered to treat herself well.

“And for all these years my wife has had a quirky used car. Now she is going to get a new car. We can do that now!”

Lotto Max draws occur twice weekly on Tuesdays and Fridays, with tickets and subscriptions available on PlayNow. PlayNow winners receive a courtesy email if they win a lottery prize.
